Therefore it is not prudent to fully believe any advert, anywhere! I mean, if somethings good enough it'll sell itself by its quality and/or price

Secondly ask yourself this question, be provably truthful in your answer, too. When and what have you ever bought as a DIRECT result of a TV ad. I can honestly say that not only I but no one else I know has ever bought anything as a result of an advertisement on the television!

Ads sucker you in and they're very clever at it too. I vote because I think it's the height of foolishness not to, if you've got a chance in the say of how the country's run, however small, use it.

We elect politicians from whateverr faction we adhere to in the belief that they will, as the collective noun implies, govern, "to rule with authority". All get elected because we, rightly, believe they are better for the job in hand. One who is better educated, better dressed and who enjoys the occupation, very important that last one!

"Fool me once, shame on you. Shame me twice, shame on me" Dear oh dear. They all make the same mistake acting first, thinking later. I'm not politcian materiel at all but I take an interest in current affairs. I think one should know what's happening to one's survival element, Earth, both lacally and globally and when all the song and dance was going on at the creation of the Euro it didn't need a rocket scientist to see that further down the road it would all go to Hell in a hand-basket; that it simply could not endure for very long.
and yet in they all marched, flags waving "now we'll give the Almighty Dollar a good seeing to". I mean, come on , be serious, and with the Asian economies beginning to get it together. too. To quote one of my heroes, Bob Dylan, "It doesn't take a weather-man to tell which way the wind blows". Nodody foresaw what exactly were likely to be the long term effects of Internet trading, of the massive impact the whole of thre cyber thing would have on society in general.

A few more equally well thought out mistakes and things begin to go wrong, if we, in whatever our particular profession happens to be, made as many mistakes in work as the "Don't look for troubl;es, you'll find them" brigade, politicians we'd be down the road with our tools on our back as they say.

I haven't ever had a credit card, I viewed them right at the start as little ticking time-bombs. I've a debit card and that's it. I might not have a 40" HDTV or a BMW suv but then I don't owe for any of those things. Again ,look at the personalities of those engaged in high finance. That which draws them into the money trade and gives them a chance to manipulate currency well is the same thing as the one that puts on the"Greed is good", team. Amongst other things they have to learn is a course in, "How not to look beyond next Sunrise". The whole Global economy thing attracts the "Me first, last and always" genre like s..t does flies.

Now we know (or do know!) these things to be true, they are as predictable as rain at Whitsun when are we going to stand up and say "Enough is enough", we are no longer going to pay for YOUR mistakes, YOUR breathtaking lack of any ability to see past the end of your nose.

One day start watching some of those finance oriented TVnews channels like "Bloomsberg" & etc it doesn't matter that you don't understand fifteen sixteenths of it just check out the anchors and money Monarchs, the talking heads. After a while you will see that no single two people agree. OK, that's to show all the different sides of the situation. No, it's the sheer volume of them that worries me, there's bound to be at least one bad apple in every barrel and the trouble starts when the future blindness one in the most powerful position gets his sums wrong. The deleterious effects multiply exponentially and once the milk's in the tea you can't get it back out again!

It says it all when the country chosen for the headquarters, for the Eurocrats to pontificate in can't even put a Government for themselves! Each of the main ruling options, politics or money is peopled with too many with rosey hued schemes, sureshot solutions etc. and we are just beginning to see the cracks their failure to get it right is causing.

Wake up! As Sherlock Holmes was fond of saying to Watson, "You look Watson but you don't see!"

It's not my fault that all the countries are going broke and I doubt it's yours, either so why the H..l should we have to pay for those that should know but don't bollicking it up?
,

Gullibles Travels

Ye Gods! How long is it going to take the average person to realize that the reason we're being swamped with advertising concerning insurance, insurance of every kind imaginable, you can even insure your insurance in some cases!

What's the reason for this unseemly rush of Insurers toward us? Well, the "Loans" scam didn't work out too well in the long run, did it!? Then some bright, greedy business type man (or woman) found the motherlode, the eternal Yage*, "Insurance" Nobody takes too much scaring into worrying about loosing all their, as yet unpaid for in full, bits and bats and dogs and cats. Contents, the thought of either financially or sentimentaly (or both) valuable possessions being damaged or worse still, stolen is unthinkable.

The beauty of being an "Insurer" is that you get an endless supply of free money you do not have to lift one finger for. Sure, you got to pay out now and again but the likelihood of everybody putting in a maximum claim all at the same time is about the same as you winning the Euro Millions! Result, as I said, money for old rope. Well. as far as I can make out ever since the hideous Thatcher years every political regieme seems to've been populated by the sort of greedy, gullible idiots that fall for the "Nigerian Princess" scam. I mean we'd have been better off putting Bernie Madof in charge of treasury.

My point is, when the !*%^@~?** are we going to strart taking these fly-by-nights to task for their profligacy with our money. I don't remember being asked if it was allright for them to put my pension fund in some tin-pot bank in Iceland!

The Euro is a joke, any fool can see that when the weakest ones of a collective fail-and their are always some who'll just not make the grade-everybody else gets dragged down with them sooner or later. Each country should have its own coinage and have control over it's exchange rates, I mean, it's down in dolly's class. I thought that was what a free market was.

The other crippling and equally asinine mistake to make was to completely eradicate our manufacturing base. Things are going to get worse before they start getting better and to leave ourselves as a whole country in the position of being unable to even mine the coal to smelt the ore let alone have a place where "things" are actually "made" is complete insanity. We bloody started the industrial revolution and now we're just the managers office.

Wake up, we've got to start readying ourselves for being able to create things again, we've got to shut the doors on this influx of every Tom, Dick and Harry who feels hard done by where they come from. WE CANNOT GO ON AS WE ARE. Why should we suffer for the avarice and incompetance of those we vote for. I've never had a credit card in my life, nor will I, if I haven't got the money then I've got to find a way to earn it or do without, it doesn't hurt, honest.

If you were as poor at your respective job (assuming you have one!) as those you vote in to run the country you'd be down the road with your tools on your back, as they say. Give me one good reason why we should suffer from the political mismanagement that is rapidly turning this country into some South Seas Banana Republic!?

disenchantment with a dream

I find myself using the www less and less reverting to the time honored and , would you believe, less time consuming method of going to local library! Why? Because I'm sick, sore and tired of the endless stream of advertising, completely irrelevant information, technical gobbledegook and downright deceit that accompanies even the simplest of search requests

The Internet is strangling itself with the blatant, unremitting GREED of the majority of its users plus the unbelievably poor ergonomic layout of most of the download sites. You get directed time after time to pages with stuff stuck haphazardly across the spread as though the creators-I use the term lightly!-have simply thrown the various ads and information at it much as a chimp throws feces at a wall and with about the same result!

Things have got worse and worse and the trend as far as I can see is more of the same. I would be most interested to know if other ordinary non "Geek" users agree with my observations herein described?

The Internet by its very nature presupposes that self discipline has to be applied in its usage if this wonderful invention is to survive as a meaningful tool of the masses but alas one only has to see the "speed bumps" on minor roads to ascertain how well self discipline is understood by the great unwashed! The other thing, the layouts of the pages force me to believe that they are purposely rubbish, I can't believe that the majority of contributors are so inept at creating user friendly graphic layouts! I reinforce this statement by suggesting that the reader go to our site http:www.wudrecords.co.uk/dark-company and check the ease of navigation. I would add this site is the work of my musical other half's 20 year old son and not some so called professional web designer!

I'm afraid my attitude is fast becoming that of "odi profanum vulgus et arceo" (would you believe that when the wrongly spelt red line came up under this quote for 'arceo' it came up with Archie. At last, equipped with necessary paint and lacquer, I took the plunge and fixing the body horizontally a few inches above the surface of my B & D portable work bench decided that I would completely finish one side plus edges (including lacquer) let it go off over night and do other side today

Aha! I thought, gentle heat will aid the process of getting it handle dry. I know the very thing, in my lounge I have in an inaccessible corner one of those convector gas wall heaters. I could move the right hand stereo speaker, modified small Calor gas Super Ser that has a 13Kg bottle on a little trolley at rear (all my own invention said the White Knight). With considerable effort and much muttering of naughty words plus a look that would fry eggs from my downstairs cat that I had woken up managed to fold in the lower splay legs of the bench (to get it through the kitchen door) and drag it slowly and painfully the whole length of the room.

Upon reaching my destination I suddenly remembered the late 19th century striped and fluted tall colored glass vase on top of the wall heater along with two cheap ornamental ribbed glass flasks either side. Knowing well the Law of Sod I thought "better be safe than sorry knowing me I'll back into stove and knock glassware down". Feeling rather foresighted and confident I reached over to remove glassware. Expensive glass vase, fine, one of the smaller bottles, fine the other small bottle.....not fine! I lose grip on it and it tumbles over edge of stove. Well, so what, I hear you say, no biggy. WRONG! below said stove is large ornamental glass Brandy Balloon filled with cacti sitting on an earthenware pot plinth. You get the picture.

Now, I've read descriptions of glass "exploding" but they never seemed to be of vessels that contained damp cacti compost and half a quarry of gravel! You are no doubt conversant with the expression "it went everywhere", this took the description literally, I think it had been practicing! It took me until 2 45am in the --ing morning to a) clear everything up and b) to unstick the cat from the ceiling and pacify the poor animal which was obviously convinced that 2012 had come early! I was still finding shards of glass mixed with lumps of compost and bits of cacti today.

The moral of this tale is don't drag B & D workbenches with drying painted objects on them round cacti filled lounges that have resident cats in them.I do hope this cautionary tale will prevent others from undergoing the trauma of my experience.

On a happier note the guitar is now finished, looks great and now simply needs reassembly and restringing and someone sent a very encouraging comment to The Cynical Sage about our band, thank you, anonymous fan, your message cheered me up just when I needed it. More stuff is being added to our repertoire all the time so keep a look out. We nailed the vocals for the second track on our latest album, Noir, today.

You've Been South Parked!

I was watching my favorite Reality Show the other day, Fox News-you've got to hand it to the people who created the format, it really is one of the slickest, best produced and best cast shows on the TV-and was marveling yet once again at the struggles of the G O P to reinvent themselves, to find a suitable charismatic character to front their party (a job I certainly wouldn't want!) and was listening to their latest "find", Sarah Palin.

I must confess that due to the recent endless and increasingly desperate sounding eulogies about the lady I was not quite focused on what was being said then she started talking herself, I suddenly thought, I recognize that voice. Where had I heard it before and then it came to me, of course, it's the school principle out of South Park Elementary! I laughed so much my sides ached and I thought that's exactly where she belongs if ever there has been a cartoon wannabee politician/celebrity, it's her.

I'm sorry but if half of my most favorite country in the free world-and I mean that, at least you have a populace that is, in the main, proud to come from their country of origin, we seem to've lost the plot in that respect in the UK-is reduced to a state where they cant find anyone of a more presidential character than dear Mrs Palin it's time to start really worrying!

I would also like to make one other observation while I'm at it. To Mr S. Hannity, it is very easy to sit on the sidelines and spew vitriolic criticism at the present administration every night and organize your seditious little "Tea Parties" but I would suggest that if you feel as strongly as your incessant whining and bad mouthing causes people to believe you do, why don't you get off your well paid arse and DO something about it like run for some sort of political office where you can actually try to make some of the changes you keep bleating on about, or is that too much like hard work for some one of your caliber. I think you call it "Monday Morning Quarterbacking". I call it being a gutless little bar room lawyer shouting from the safety zone.

I've been an "Americanophile" ever since I saw my first Dell comic-I went to a school that had a number of the sons of officers in the armed services who were stationed over here in the cold war era and from whom I learnt the magic of the Post Exchange stores!-and have never looked back!

Lately, due to the onset of winter, I've had my other cat in most of the time (the resident one, Melanie, used to be a house cat and won't go further than the doorstep on her own, I have to take her walks!) when the outside puss (Miriam) is in she inhabits the couch in the lounge the other one stays upstairs most of the time which works out fine.

Now Melanie (house model) will only use a tray which I keep at the top of the stairs, the other one, Miriam will only go outside (no matter how bad weather is). Melanie is small very dainty and scrupulously clean, will only use tray for a poo once before she demands it cleaning which she does by sitting by it and squeaking loudly and insistently until I poop scoop it. She also makes the most incredible amount of scratching noises when buying it, cat litter flying everywhere!

A few days ago I'm sat down stairs on the couch with Miriam (Minnie for short) curled up next to me having consumed large fish breakfast. For once Melanie has come down stairs and has been sprawled in front of Calor gas fire. All of a sudden nature calls off she trots upstairs whereupon previously described performance is enacted. Minnie is most interested and two sleepy yellow eyes are part open looking up stairs. When I hear the usual "clean it NOW noises" I dutifully get plastic carrier bag and do the necessary, knotting bag and coming slowly down stairs with it to put it in bin outside back door. Obviously Minnie hadn't seen the whole operation before as as horrible pong wafts on the air she realizes what's in the bag. I walk past her, by this time the interest level has gone up a good two notches and eyes are wide open watching me like a hawk so I purposely leave kitchen door open and open back door which are in line and easily visible from her position on couch. I put the bag slowly with exaggerated gesture into bin and close lid.

The look on Minnie's face had to be seen to be believed! "Dear God they even bury it for you here, they're all mad. I've never seen owt like it in all my born days". I swear she shook her head in disbelief. I laughed until the tears were running down my face. I had to hold on to a worktop for a few minutes to get my breath!

I might add that both cats are, like me, senior citizens being as far as I have been able to find out similarly aged, somewhere between 11 and 14. Both are "rescue cats" Melanie was neglected and also teased I think while Minnie was first physically abused then abandoned. I never go looking for them but all my life I've had a steady stream of waifs and strays turn up on my doorstep wherever I've been living.

People say "Oh but dogs are so much more responsive and loyal". Codswallop, a dog has a slave mentality because it knows it can't survive without a human cats however, can, they stay with you only if they love and respect you, feelings which must go each way for a rewarding union to develop. I crib a bit of Sherlock Holmes when I try to describe to people who own cats how to get a better relationship with them, "You look, Watson, but you don't see". All ailourophiles ought to get a copy of a truly wonderful book by the renowned author, Desmond Morris, called "Cat Watching". I cannot praise this publication and it's sequel, "Cat Lore" highly enough. He calls them "our graceful companions". 'nuff said!

Too Close For Comfort

I'm aware of the old adage "keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer" but having the enemy in a position of authority in your military is rather overdoing it, don't you think? Quite frankly when I heard of Ali Baba running amok and that he was a major in the army I cracked a grin, when I found out he was a psychiatrist whose job it was to council the troops I fell off my chair laughing.

Look, I'm all for political correctness but when the people you're being politically correct about take it as a kind of weak minded madness it simply is not a good thing, not unless you want to increase your chances of being blown up or shot!

Come on America isn't it about time you stopped pussy footing around, I don't say you haven't been totally daft in doing the Iraqi Mambo, you have, dear old Bush let people push him into a completely unnecessary war-Hussein was an old man and beginning to lose his grip and the two sons were more likely to fight each other than anybody else, all you had to do was wait it out until Saddam died or was deposed THEN jump in-but all this contrition has got to stop and Obama has got to start using the brains he undoubtedly has instead of making the same mistake as his predecessor i. e. letting a cabal of so called experts give him advice that's as about as useful as a bucket with a hole in it.

When I was out in the Middle East in 1965 I remember a German I met in Cairo telling me of a saying that goes "truth to an Arab is the lie he can make stick!" "On" is as our society is at the moment, push the switch to the "Off" position and in a flash everything created by, or influenced in some way, by America, it's people and inventions is withdrawn from life!

I ask you, just imagine how your life, the society in which you so comfortably live, would be. Given enough thought I think you will agree with me that the result would be catastrophic to your quality of life.

I do not by any means agree with or support all things that the country in question has done or inevitably will do but, good people the alternative is a grim landscape indeed.

Therefore it is with regret that I witness what that mighty country, home of the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful is seemingly intent of doing to itself, that is, tearing itself apart.

I watch Fox News daily, it is, after all, one of the slickest, best produced and cleverly constructed programs on the TV. For example, nearly all their anchors and "talking heads" as far as I can make out have qualifications acquired in the fields of law or education apart from the fact that they've somehow managed, with the female members of the above workforce, to ensure they are the prettiest and most vivacious of their gender! The result, along with little tricks such as the segueing of one program into another just before the ad breaks so you are that much less inclined to channel hop during the commercials, is seamless and makes our efforts in the rolling news medium seem utterly clodhopping by comparison.

Fox News claims to be "fair and balanced", I think "fairly unbalanced" would be far more accurate a description. Without doubt the major influence is, with a couple of exceptions, Right Wing. Fair enough but the channel as a whole seems, since the advent of Obama as President hellbent on starting what an effect which could lead, if unchecked, to a civil war or at the very least a bifurcation of the country along party lines. It is a great shame that bumptious little oiks like the execrable Hannity should be allowed to put forth the utterly negative diatribe aginst everything and anything the present administration does or says. Anyone can sit and carp from the sidelines, if Mr Hannity is so underwhelmed with the present political climate why doesn't he get off hiss well paid behind and go into politics himself so that he could try to effect the changes he wants. Destructive criticism is easy, constructive effort requires a stronger character.

I've always loved the U S A, much as one would love a wayward but brilliant child, one, who just when you are ready to give them a clip round the ear does somthing of such merit that all past indiscretions are forgiven at a stroke!

Unfortunately for the reason of one of their prime attractions, that you can be anything you want with perseverance, the country as a whole seems to be in decline within itself let alone as a world power. This when looked at from the outside is hardly surprising as after they'd crucified dear old Bill, first they give the top job to the village idiot and then follow it with the shoeshine boy! Neither man has had or got the nescessary minerals to be an effective leader of men. The faults being, in the first choice, a lack of education and in the present choice, over education.

Please, U S of A, get it sorted, because if you don't the wishes of all the nay sayers will be granted and then it'll be too late when they realize their mistake.

How it is

....And Lo! A voice said unto me from the wilderness, "Smile, things could be worse". So I did and they were.
I now not only have a flea ridden cat, a £500 Mot bill and disintegrating teeth I also have a kitchen full of hornets! I kid you not s***ing great big ones, as in, not small and as in, not a few and from the little I know about hornets I would say of the well p***ed off variety.
I went down for my customary late nite snack, flipped the switch and got "Oi! who turned the 'kin lite on, some of us are tryin' to get some kip!" What's next, the rain of frogs or the rivers of blood, I forget where I'm up to.
Now here's your thought for the day. You do not make as many friends by being truthfull as you do by being tactfull!
Oh! The hornets, yeah they're still there or some of them anyway. They seem to've taken up residence on top of the ornamental cane and thin see thru stuff lampshade. They're claiming squatter's rights. A friend of mine who I told asked how did I do my cooking? "Bloody quickly" says I: A communication from your favourite geriatric rock singer. This having been said, however, it doesn't preclude the existence of a non materiel force of some kind or other underlying the micro and macrocosmic realms, somthing that unites that which is "you" with that which is all else.
Having thumbed my way through the book of diverse beliefs more than once during my life and come up disatisfied with any specific entry but witnessing along the way various things that I could not explain using the medium of science I settled on the theory of and belief in a "Tide".
A tide that flows through all things and all people. I don't nescessarily think one can converse with it on a detailistic level, like answering prayers or performing rituals (though the latter would seem to be the more likely of the two) but I do think that it's possible to evaluate it and thus make use of it, even if the results are somewhat out of sync!
Herewith an example of what I mean. Throughout my life I've been a compulsive poet and monologue maker, I can't help writing! Along with this has been, equally strongly, a love of contemporary music. Three things set that off, seeing Sonny Boy Williams live playing harmonica and singing, dicovering in quick succession Jimi Hendrix and then, the most important epiphany of all, Bob Dylan.
Other than the harmonica I struggled without success to learn another instrument so when Blues went out of fashion I resigned myself to the role of listener and that was unsatisfactorily that for a long while. Due to marriages and children and so on I never explored any further.
Now, I think the "Tide" I spoke of recognised that there was somthing in me that was worth bringing in to the light and oddly enough it was because of one of the detracting influences, in this case, children, that what was there inside me, bobbing along on the tide finally was washed up on the shore in the sunshine
My son who has turned out to be of a musical bent had a sort of school friend who was also a muscician, a guitarist who also wrote lyrics and when I first met him was already at 17/18 obviously destined for greater things.
My son's friend and I, despite the disparity in ages hit it off from the word go. I obviously didn't like to play the oldest swinger in town so I kept in the background, or tried to. The thing with tides is that all things floating on it are linked and goverened by it. You all get washed in the same direction for a start whether you like it or not.
One of the properties of water is its abilty to eddy and flow in a multitude of ways, it can push two bits of jetsam together or pull them apart. George and I maintained a casual connection, he in one trough of swell, me in another one nearby.
Time goes by and unknown to either of us circumstances were being contrived to wash us closer together and finally to be flung up on the same shore. Then there was the day when after looking at some of the stuff I'd written he said words to the effect of, "You write it and sing it and I'll put the music to it". I ought to mention at this point I'd confided my secret desire to be a vocalist to him.
It satarted off great then everything went belly up again when I got divorced and the place we had the first studio in had to be sold.
You'd think that was that, I did think that but the "Tide" didn't! I moved, we met up again, things happened and we were forced to go different ways. I thoght that that really was it that last time, it wasn't supposed to be.
Once again I'd reckoned without the "Tide". It has the same two qualities that its namesake has, implacable and inexorable! Yep, you've guessed it, after a couple of years our paths are made to cross yet again. This time, though, we've both come to the conclusion that whatever the thing is that underlies life is not going to be thwarted and it's going to keep us tripping over one another until we have produced the end best product that we're capable of.
It might interest you to know that I'm 65 and George is 43. Well, before you come out with "there's no fool like an old fool" have a listen to us on our website, that is if you like rock music. We're at http://www.wudrecords.co.uk/dark-company.
The moral of this story is, follow your dream, if you're any good at whatever it is you might get more help than you know, I know we have.
